Niemann and Gooch Share Korea Lead, Final Showdown Set

Joaquin Niemann and Talor Gooch will enter Sunday's final round of LIV Golf Korea locked together at 9 under par after 54 holes at Asiad Country Club, setting up a title duel between two of the circuit's most prolific individual winners. Between them, the Torque GC captain and the OKGC captain have accumulated 11 LIV Golf individual tournament victories - Niemann seven, Gooch four. Scott Vincent of HyFlyers GC sits one stroke behind in third, with Cameron Smith and Charles Howell III tied for fourth at 7 under.

Niemann, 27 and the league's all-time individual wins leader, carded a 4-under 66 on Saturday, a round galvanized by three long birdie putts on the back nine. The most significant came at the par-4 14th, where he drained a 34-foot right-to-left breaking putt. "14 was a beautiful putt," Niemann said. "As soon as I hit it, I kind of knew. I saw it perfectly, I was just walking it in. There was nowhere else to go." He acknowledged the putter had been unresponsive earlier in the week: "Putter did behave a lot better today than the first two days, so pretty happy about that." Niemann has carried a 54-hole co-lead into the final round five previous times on tour, converting four of those into victories. Despite winning five individual titles in 2025, he has yet to win in the current season.

Gooch entered Saturday as the solo leader following a second-round 63, but a measured 69 - featuring 14 consecutive pars to open before a lone birdie at the par-5 15th - left him level with Niemann rather than clear of the field. It will be the seventh time he has carried a share of the lead into a LIV Golf final round; he has won on three of the previous six occasions. Gooch is also due to defend his LIV Golf Andalucia title next week in Spain, the following event on the schedule. "You've got to stay patient and just wait for your time," he said. "Maybe tomorrow it'll come." Acknowledging the caliber of the leaderboard, he added: "When you see a leaderboard with guys like this, you feel like you've got to do more than 67."

Vincent, a Zimbabwean who joined HyFlyers GC as a reserve filling in for captain Phil Mickelson, shot a bogey-free 67 and has now recorded a top-10 finish in each of his first two starts with the team. A win on Sunday would be his first individual LIV Golf title. "Winning out here is not easy," he said. "I think just big picture-wise, just putting myself in this position is just great for me." Howell, runner-up at LIV Golf Korea a year ago, was bogey-free through his first 13 holes before a four-putt double-bogey dropped him to 7 under alongside Smith. "Man, this place is tricky," Howell said. "Hole locations are quite difficult here on these corners. It's tough to make birdies." He nonetheless urged aggression for the final round: "You've got to keep making birdies. There are too many good players up there."

Defending champion Bryson DeChambeau, who won last year's edition of the event, closed with a 71 after two late bogeys and drops into a tie for sixth at 6 under alongside Dustin Johnson and Ben Campbell. Johnson produced the round of the day - a bogey-free, 6-under 64 - and stands four strokes off the pace. DeChambeau, who opened the tournament by playing his first 10 holes at 6 under, has played the subsequent 44 holes at level par. On the team leaderboard, the Crushers lead at 16 under, one ahead of OKGC - playing just its second tournament since rebranding from Smash GC - with Ripper GC a further three back in third. Sunday's final round at Asiad Country Club begins at 1:05 p.m. local time.

Eight of the top 10 individuals through 54 holes hold at least one LIV Golf title, with the group combining for 25 wins. Jon Rahm, the reigning two-time individual champion and current season-long points leader, saw his streak of consecutive rounds under par end at 40 after a 1-over 71 on Saturday, a streak broken by a final-hole bogey. He enters the final round tied for 25th at 1 under. Cameron Smith, meanwhile, hit 12 of 14 fairways - 85.71%, the best rate in the field on the day - a statistic his camp will view as a positive indicator following his recent swing-coach change. Sunday will mark the first time Niemann and Gooch have shared the final pairing in a LIV Golf event since the circuit's inaugural season in 2022.
