Ehlers Scores Twice as Hurricanes Seize Game 1 of Stanley Cup Final

Nikolaj Ehlers scored on Carolina's first shot of the series and added a second goal in the opening period as the Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 1 of the 2026 Stanley Cup Final on Wednesday night in Raleigh. The Hurricanes, playing at home for the first two games of the series, are making their third Stanley Cup Final appearance in franchise history. The Golden Knights reached the Final by sweeping the Colorado Avalanche in the Western Conference Final.

The two-goal performance by Ehlers underscored one of Carolina's defining traits through the 2026 playoffs: early-game execution built on structured, disciplined team play. Vegas, the reigning Western Conference champion, had not faced a deficit in back-to-back games during its sweep of Colorado, making Wednesday's slow start a notable departure from their recent form.

Game 2 is scheduled for Thursday in Raleigh. The series then shifts to Las Vegas for Game 3 on Saturday and Game 4 the following Tuesday.
